Mariandrie

Mariandrie is a Cypriot interdisciplinary artist working across textiles, installation and painting. Born in 1989, her practice sits at the meeting point of opposing ideas, male and female, past and present, weaving these tensions into hybrid forms that move between craft and fine art. Textiles are the heart of her language, and through embroidery, knitting and sewing she reimagines processes long tied to the domestic sphere.

Her work questions inherited gender binaries and the constructs built around them, inviting a second look at the familiar. Rooted in identity, memory and belonging, each piece holds the quiet labour of the hand, turning everyday materials into charged objects.

Mariandrie studied Fine Art at the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts and holds an MA in Visual Arts in Education from European University Cyprus. She has held solo exhibitions at The Edit Gallery in Cyprus and Phoenix Gallery in Athens, and shown in group exhibitions across Cyprus, Greece, Germany, the United Kingdom and Cuba, including at the Alex Mylona Museum in Athens and the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation and NiMAC in Nicosia. Her residencies include Arthaus Lab in Cuba during the 2019 Havana Biennale and the Schafhof European Art Forum in Germany.
