Neal Camilleri

Neal Camilleri is a Maltese artist based in London, working primarily in ceramics and sculpture alongside painting. His practice draws on memory and place, gathering the small domestic objects, textures and rituals of childhood into forms that feel at once familiar and strange. Growing up on a rocky island surrounded by sea and prickly pear, and later moving through a home furnished with dark Victorian wood, he returns again and again to the houses, fields and cliff edges that shaped him.

Across ongoing bodies of work such as Running Around My Grandmas House and I Grew Up On A Rock, Camilleri treats objects as vessels for memory, holding sweets, keys and forgotten trinkets, or standing in for the people and feelings we carry with us. Themes of family, belonging, twinship and identity run quietly through the work, which invites others to recognise their own recollections and to find, in the idea of home, a sense of connection.
