Join us on a journey to explore female sexuality with the social activist The Abstract Girl (Eva Kotta) and have meaningful conversations about shame and fear associated with it. Bringing our attention to vaginal anatomy through open dialogue and artistic representation serves as a form of resistance to patriarchal ideals regarding female worth and sexuality.

Description

When was the first time you took a mirror to look at your vulva? How would you describe it? Is it pretty, is it normal, is there something strange about it?

Some individuals don’t dare to look at their vulvas or refer to them as vulvas but probably as vaginas or opt to turn off the lights during sexual activity in order to avoid discomfort and forego physical inspection. In fact, according to a survey carried out in 2018, 34% of women aged 25-35 said they were delaying a cervical screening because they felt embarrassed by the appearance of their vulva.

Despite the sexualization of the male anatomy within society, the female genitalia is often stigmatized and subjected to shame, making it difficult for individuals to accept and appreciate the varying shapes and sizes of female private parts.

These harmful beliefs are linked to patriarchal systems in which women are often sexualized and objectified but not validated for their own sexual autonomy.  Contrary to this norm, bringing attention to vaginal anatomy through open dialogue and artistic representation serves as a form of resistance to patriarchal ideals regarding female worth and sexuality.
