Theme: Now/ Τώρα
The next stage of the evolution
This year’s exhibition aims to explore nowness and the issues of contemporary culture, the next stage of the evolution. Inspired by Cream’s origin in Athens, and the Ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus saying ‘‘everything is in a state of becoming” or in other words “Ta panta rhei”. Heraclitus was the first writer to speak about the fluid nature of things. He proclaimed - “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man”. Nothing is forever and everything is in a state of constant and continuous change.
Based on the underpinning philosophies of Heraclitus, Whipped aims to arouse your visual senses, by blending together these 23 artists embarking you on journey through visual fantasia and notable delight. Gently guiding you through an array of current complexities; skilfully interwoven displays of everyday objects inciting new meanings; drawings and ceramics, fusing socio-political themes; paintings that critically inspire, mind altering experiences and distorted realities. Embedded performance, almost shapeshifting in form of visual extrapolations. Whipped is a wonderland-esq exposition of bold nostalgic ephemera aims to playfully guide you through an existential state of self.
