About the work
“Captain George” is a series of art works that I created with a beloved person in mind, my grandfather, George. He started off as a sailor, travelling all around the world from the age of 14 in order to make ends meet for his family. Every time he returned to his homeland, Greece, he would share his saltwater-soaked stories from his life in the sea with his grandchildren. Inspired by old photographs, personal objects, letters and secrets from his journeys, I created a series of art works devoted to him, Captain George, in order to capture a tiny bit of that saltwater aura that captured his soul forever.
